Cowboys Rework Prescott, Martin To Free Up $30M

Zack Martin and Dak Prescott chuckle it up.

The Dallas Cowboys "flipped the switch" on a built-in contract term that allows an "automatic conversion" of salary from base to bonus.

It's a simple bookkeeping tool that freed up $30 million of cap space, and should put the Dallas Cowboys around $12 million under the Salary Cap limit.

This pushes those savings down the road to 2024, 2025, and 2026, but there is a good chance both these players are going to sign new contracts if they continue to play in the NFL past the upcoming season.

The biggest cap hits on the Dallas Cowboys heading into 2023 now go as follows:

  • Dak Prescott $27.4m / 11.9% of Salary Cap

  • DeMarcus Lawrence $26m / 11.3%

  • Tyron Smith $17.6m / 7.6%

  • Ezekiel Elliott $16.7m / 7.3%

  • Michael Gallup $13.8m / 6%

  • Zack Martin $10.5m / 4.6%

  • Tony Pollard $10.1m / 4.4%

  • Dorance Armstrong Jr $7.3m / 3.2%

We'll look at the possibility of reworking Tyron Smith's contract below, but 10.6% of the salary cap wrapped up in two running backs (Zeke and TP20), that's no bueno.

Bobby Wagner Gets Call From Dan Quinn

Bobby Wagner whispers sweet nothing’s into Dak Prescott’s ear.

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and CanFan Coach of the Year, who worked with Bobby Wagner in Seattle, has called the NFL Star veteran linebacker in hopes that he will come join the Cowboys on a trip to Super Bowl LVIII.

The problem is that Wagner's free agency value is skyrocketing. After playing a full season without injury, Bobby W's age doesn't seem to be a factor when it comes to performance.

Both the Chargers and Seahawks are also rumoured to have reached out to Wagner, as well as a handful of other teams, so all signs point to Wagner getting the biggest paycheck he can from the best team who has a chance at playing for the Lombardi.

Signing Bobby Wagner would be an upgrade over LVE, but it would come at a more hefty cost. We'll see if the Cowboys actually make a move, but the last time they sent Wagner an offer it was "underwhelming" to say the least.

Michael Irvin Speaks Out On Hotel Lawsuit

More details have been released about the alleged inappropriate misconduct accusations against Dallas Cowboys alumni Michael Irvin.

Michael Irvin wishes he never shook that hand.

According to Irvin's recant of the events, Michael asked a female employee at the Mariott Hotel what she did for work, told her he found her attractive, and shook her hand and introduced himself.

Sounds innocent enough. Just a dude trying to make a move.

However, there are two sides to every story.

The allegation goes as follows; Michael Irvin reached out and touched the victim's arm during the conversation, without consent, causing her to step back and become visibly uncomfortable. She then states that Irvin asked if she knew anything about having a "big black man inside" of her.

Eventually, the allegations state that two co-workers noticed the victim seemed uncomfortable, and she shook Irvin's hand to end the interaction.

A federal judge has ordered that Marriott "blatantly" violated a court order, and that the video of the engagement needs to be released.

Michael Irvin's $100 million dollar lawsuit against Marriott for defamation and tortious interference in a business relationship is hanging over the Hotel chain's head. And with witnesses arguing for either side of the allegations, stating Irvin didn't do anything out of pocket on one hand, and on the other hand that Michael Irvin left the alleged victim "visibly shaken", it’s hard to call it one way or the other.

It's an interesting story for a couple of reasons, and I'm going to continue to follow it.

Cowboys CanFan 4 Round Mock Draft 3.0

We did our third 4 round mock draft and finally pulled an explosive running back worthy of taking over the back field for the Dallas Cowboys.

Tyron Smith Restructuring Could Free Another $6M

With Tyler Smith looking very comfortable at the tackle position, Tyron Smith, who is 33 years old, holds a hefty salary cap for of $17.6m for the upcoming 2023 season.

That’s just too much, even for a solid tackle like the elder Smith.

Tyron Smith leads the boys into battle.

That's also a lot of cash caught up in a player who has only played 34% of games over the past 3 seasons, and hasn't played an injury free season since 2015.

It sounds like Smith is going to be returning to Dallas, and if they restructure Tyron's contract, it could free up over $6m in salary cap space.

This could create room for a free agent like Bobby Wagner, or allow the Dallas Cowboys to resign a parting UFA like Donovan Wilson. Maybe both!

There seems to be a good amount of indications that a restructuring deal with Tyron Smith is inevitable, and coupled with the $30 million that Jerry and the Boys front office were able to free up already via Prescott's and Martin's restructuring, there is going to be good opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys to make a yuuuuuge splash during Free Agency.
