Cowboys CanFan Weekly Wrap Up | February 4th, 2023

The lull before the NFL Super Bowl storm is upon us! And still, without making it past the divisional game, the Dallas Cowboys keep finding ways to stay in the media. If there is one thing Jerry Jones can do better than Jimmy Johnson, it’s his ability to create a story in just a few words.

Here are the biggest headlines of the week for the Dallas Cowboys!

Jones Wants Dak Prescott To Be Dallas Cowboys Quarterback For “10 More Years!”

With a $49 million contract, Dak Prescott has achieved generational changing wealth. But the Dallas Cowboys prodigal son, Stephen Jones, recently said, "Dak is going to be our guy for, hopefully, the next 10 years."

That seems like a long time away, considering Dak Prescott is heading into his 8th season! But Jones believes his quarterback is capable of playing for another decade, “I think Dak will play that long because he takes care of himself, and he's driven to be great.”

Do you think that Dak Prescott will be the Dallas Cowboys quarterback in 2033?

Kellen Moore Fired From Cowboys, Hired By Chargers

It wasn’t that Kellen Moore didn’t have impressive stats:

  • 3 top 6 finishes in point differential

  • 3 Top 8 finishes in yards differential

  • 3 top 6 finishes in offensive points

  • 3 top 9 finishes in rushing yards

  • 3 top 8 finishes in passing yards

  • 3 top 9 finishes in passing touchdowns

  • 3 top 9 finishes in net yards gained per attempt

It was that when it mattered most, Kellen Moore couldn’t move the ball and score points. Moore’s offense dropped 12% in Yards Per Play in the 3 playoff games that he coached, compared to his regular season average. Now, let’s take a step back and be honest — the paper tiger wide receiver core, if we remove CeeDee Lamb, is not good. Period. And maybe we bought in to and even created the hype ourselves!

All that being said, something needed to change, and Kellen Moore had his head placed on the chopping block. This solidified Mike McCarthy moving in and taking over the play calling. The Moore vs. McCarthy conversation can be laid to rest, as Big Mike comes out victorious, getting what he has wanted his entire tenure as the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, and Kellen Moore moves on to coordinate for the strong Chargers offense.

Now we just need to find a replacement…
