Cowboys CanFan Weekly Wrap Up | February 11, 2023
There is a lot of anticipation leading up to the Super Bowl, but the Dallas Cowboys Nation never sleeps! Here are the top stories this week for the Dallas Cowboys.
Mock Draft Part 1 & 2 Complete
First, if you haven’t, check out part 1 and part 2 of Anthony’s WAY Too Early Mock Draft. Links below.
CeeDee Lamb "Very Excited" With Schottenheimer Promotion
The number one wide receiver in Dallas says he doesn’t think there will be much of a difference with the Cowboys offense; and he added that he’s very excited to work with Coach Schotty. “We can score from anywhere in the game, anywhere on the field, any ball possession”, CeeDee Lamb said on a recent interview with NFL network.
You’re not really gonna get any shit talking out of this guy; he’s in a leadership role, and talking dirty about a coach this close after his departure is just a big no-no. That’s assuming he does feel different than what he is saying with his words, and I have no reason to believe that he isn’t telling the truth. Just saying, I didn’t expect him to say anything different, either way.
Lamb also spoke highly of Brian Schottenheimer, “He knows what we do best. He knows what we don’t do well and what we can work on.” I’m not sure if that’s a slight dig at Kellen Moore, or not, but I can’t help but think his excitement without expecting a big change on offense means he expects that he’s going to be doing more things that he likes to do, and that he can do really well.
Prescott named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year
Congratulations are in order for Rayne Dakota Prescott, NFL’s 2022 Man of the Year! "You never stop giving back. The work will never be done," Prescott said, adding that winning the award “only makes me want to do more in the community and put myself out there more”. You can hate the way he plays football, but you gotta love this guy!
There were 32 finalists, one from each NFL team, and so it’s important to understand WHY Prescott won this award.
Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com had this to say about Dak Prescott’s Faith Fight Finish (FFF) Foundation, ”FFF now focuses on 4 main initiatives: colon cancer research, mental health and suicide prevention, bridging the gap between law enforcement the communities they serve, and offering assistance to those facing life-challenging hardships."
Quite a wide variety of causes, but it’s ambition like this that makes him a top ten NFL quarterback.
Real quick, for anyone who is wondering; The NFL's Man of the Year award is named after the late and great Walter Payton. The award started getting handed out in 1970 but was renamed after Payton’s death in 1999.
Micah Parsons Snubbed By DPOY Vote?
NFL Star and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons finished the year with 13.5 sacks, 13 tackles for a loss, and 29 QB hurries. And he got zero votes for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. That went to Nick Bosa, and well deservedly. Still, and maybe this is just because he plays in Dallas, a tweet by Cowboys Star Micah Parsons on Twitter spawned some interesting reactions, and questions if 2021’s Defensive Rookie of the Year was sour about getting ZERO votes:
That was just under an hour after the 2022 DPOY award was awarded to Bosa. Then he followed up the following morning with:
I like the hunger. And I think Micah Parsons sums it up best with his pinned tweet:
Jimmy Johnson Roasts Jerry Jones
The way things are going, I don’t think Jimmy Johnson is gonna ever make it into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honour; not while Johnson or Jones are both alive, anyway.
The story going around is that Jimmy “roasted” Jerry after Jones commented that the Eagles and Rams bet it all for one year and are now “paying for it”. Which is a philosophy worth discussing in itself; should teams go all in, or should they build long term?
Fortunately, or unfortunately, we aren’t going to get into that; but we are going to hear what Jimmy Johnson had to say about the situation.
Jimmy J said he got a phone call from Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who asked Jimmy what Jerry Jones meant by “paying for it”.
Jimmy replied simply, “I have no idea”.
Is this a “roast” or just an honest answer? The beauty of it is that we get to make that up for ourselves.
Daron Payne, Stefon Diggs Sought By Cowboys Stars
Two Dallas Cowboys Stars, Trevon Diggs and Micah Parsons, are trying to lure two other NFL stars to join the Cowboys next season.
It’s more so the media drumming up a story and asking the question that everyone is throwing around online; what would it take to get the two Diggs brothers playing on the same NFL team together.
Obviously, as a Dallas Cowboys fan, I want to see this happen for the Cowboys. But with a $24m cap hit, it’s just not going to happen. I like the idea, and I’m happy to eat crow if I’m wrong.
Micah Parsons shared his thoughts on whom the Dallas Cowboys should go after in free agency recently, “I like Daron Payne a lot. We got too many (edge) rushers”. Parsons would definitely benefit from big body Payne dominating the middle of the field for the Cowboys defense, but rumour is that Payne and the Commanders have started negotiations.
It could just be a formality, or it could be that Payne is gonna be spending the next 4–5 years in Washington.
